Rian Johnson's
untitled Star Wars Episode VIII isn't due for a couple of years yet (set for a
2017 release date), but the Mouse House has already began its search for the
main villain of the film. On their sights is the Oscar winning actor BenicioDel Toro, who is said to have been offered the villain in Episode VIII
according to The Wrap.
Not much is known to
the plot of their latest installment, so we still have no idea what kind of
villain Del Toro is going to be. Rian Johnson, director of Looper, is tasked to
write and direct Episode VIII. The movie will also feature the return of
John Boyega as Finn, Daisy Ridley as Rey
and Oscar Isaac, who was cast as En Sabah Nur (Apocalypse) in X-Men Apocalypse
and is currently on the filming location of said film, playing the role of
X-wing pilot Poe Dameron in this one.
Benicio Del Toro, who
won best supporting actor for his role as an honest Mexican narcotics cop in
'Traffic', is no stranger to Disney's movie franchise. He recently starred as
The Collector in Marvel's space opera adventure 'Guardians of the Galaxy',
which is under Disney.
Johnson is also a writer of the final episode
of the Star Wars trilogy, so he will possibly have a bigger hand in the future
of the Star Wars saga more so than Abrams. Filming location isn't announced yet, but they are due to start shooting Episode VIII early next year.
As for Del Toro's
role, despite still not having made his decision if he would accept the role,
it would be a great addition to the Star Wars franchise to have a talented
actor who is known to play a wide range of roles including those who have
fallen on the 'dark' side. He has shown time and time again that he could be a
menacing threat that could possibly be a major thorn in the heroes' side, as to
be expected in a Star Wars villain.
