Sam Mendes Confirms SPECTRE Will Be His Last Bond Film

According to 007 director Sam Mendes, he won't be making any more Bond films after Spectre comes out this year. He was previously rumored to helm the untitled Bond 25, but he has now confirmed that the rumors aren't true. After a very successful premiere from his last film 'Skyfall', which earned critical acclaim and over a billion in the box office, the director apparently wants to return to his work in theatre after the movie premieres on October 26.

Mendes said in an interview with BBC Radio 5 that he didn't originally plan to return to the franchise after Skyfall was released, saying "I said no to the last one and ended up doing it, and was pilloried by all my friends." He also added that Spectre is "probably it" for him when it comes to the world of James Bond. It took 5 years to shoot the two movies, and even though he said it was one big experience and life changing shooting both films (Skyfall and Spectre) from various filming locations, he is ready to move on to other projects. "It really is more a lifestyle choice than a job. I don’t think I could go down that road again" the director says.

The famed director made his mark in theatre, and has directed a new production of Road Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in between directing the Bond films. He expressed his interest to return to theatre where he is more at home. "I'm happiest rehearsing a play or editing a movie, and when I've finished editing a movie I generally want to be back in a theatre environment again," he said. Even so, he is still open to returning to do another film in the next few years.

Spectre is promised to be a bigger movie than Skyfall, with filming locations all over the world including London, Mexico, Italy and Morocco and a cast and crew of over 1,000 people.

Casts include Christoph Waltz, Lea Seydoux, Naomie Harris, Andrew Scott, Ben Whishaw, Dave Bautista, Monica Bellucci and Ralph Fiennes.

Featuring Daniel Craig as James Bond in his fourth appearance as 007, he is drawn to a plot that involves a cryptic message from Bond's past that sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization.

Director Sam Mendes also revealed that the Spectre theme song was already recorded, but would not yet reveal the singer behind it. "I can say that the song's been recorded and it's fantastic and I'm very excited about it. You won't have to wait long." the director teased.
