Mendes said in an
interview with BBC Radio 5 that he didn't originally plan to return to the
franchise after Skyfall was released, saying "I said no to the last one
and ended up doing it, and was pilloried by all my friends." He also added
that Spectre is "probably it" for him when it comes to the world of James
Bond. It took 5 years to shoot the two movies, and even though he said it was
one big experience and life changing shooting both films (Skyfall and Spectre)
from various filming locations, he is ready to move on to other projects.
"It really is more a lifestyle choice than a job. I don’t think I could go
down that road again" the director says.
The famed director made his mark in theatre,
and has directed a new production of Road Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory in between directing the Bond films. He expressed his interest to
return to theatre where he is more at home. "I'm happiest rehearsing a
play or editing a movie, and when I've finished editing a movie I generally
want to be back in a theatre environment again," he said. Even so, he is
still open to returning to do another film in the next few years.
Spectre is promised
to be a bigger movie than Skyfall, with filming locations all over the world
including London, Mexico, Italy and Morocco and a cast and crew of over 1,000
people.
Featuring Daniel
Craig as James Bond in his fourth appearance as 007, he is drawn to a plot that
involves a cryptic message from Bond's past that sends him on a trail to
uncover a sinister organization.
Director Sam Mendes
also revealed that the Spectre theme song was already recorded, but would not
yet reveal the singer behind it. "I can say that the song's been recorded
and it's fantastic and I'm very excited about it. You won't have to wait
long." the director teased.
